When/how did you first fall in love with Topsail Island?
"I was changing majors in college (Duluth, MN), and saw that Topsail was a short commute to UNCW (which has an excellent Business school). I picked Topsail Island and Surf City off the map at the college library and have never looked back."
How long have you been a Real Estate Agent?
"I received my real estate license in the summer of 1995 while also completing summer courses at UNCW for my double major. Next thing I knew, I was a real estate agent…now I own the Topsail Area’s best real estate firm, employ and train the brightest in the market, and help people win in real estate."
What are your strengths?
"I love figuring out problems and finding solutions, both for the current situation and for the long term ongoing solutions, to ensure others avoid it. I believe 'Best Practices' are named that for a reason, from both experience (good and bad) and a lot of research and learning. I LOVE Topsail Island and what it has to offer vacationers, sellers, buyers, investors, retirees; I’m well versed in all of these opportunities. I love being an entrepreneur, and I love small business; real/positive changes are within your direct reach at the small business level without bureaucracy getting in the way."
How do your strengths help to make you a great Real Estate Agent?
"I won’t take a client that is not in it for the partnership. Everyone has to win; everyone involved. I won’t deal in win-lose transactions, because ultimately, no one wins. I guess that’s what 'Best Practices' teach."
List any special awards, degrees/certifications, or any other relevant qualifications you may have:
"I take every course, designation, certification, and seek out knowledge base that I can. I believe knowledge is the real game changer. I have a degree in Marketing, and also Business Management. I’ve had a Broker’s license since 1999. Real Estate Designations include: ABR (Accredited Buyer's Representative), ABRM (Accredited Buyer's Representative Manager), CRB (Certified Residential Broker), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), e-Pro (Internet/Technology Pro), RRS (Resort & Recreational Specialist), RSPC (Resort and Second Home Property Specialist), SRS (Seller Representative Specialist), REALTOR. I’m licensed in insurance. I’ve won numerous marketing awards for the firm and personally. I’m often asked to speak on panels or lead seminars at national conferences. I’ve attended the Dale Carnegie Course, the Floyd Wickman Course (Sweat-Hogs), Jared James Advance, Mike Berry, International Management Academy, and many world class seminars and conferences."
What makes you an expert in your role as a realtor on Topsail Island?
"Experience, Education, and Knowledge. I’ve also had the best teachers and mentors; and I build on that everyday."
What values are most important to you and your work?
"Integrity: take the right path; even if no one follows. Consultative: don’t let others make the mistakes you’ve already learned or encountered. Life is short; choose wisely who you let into it, what directs it, where it’s going, and how you get there."
Why should clients choose you as their Real Estate Agent?
"I’ll tell you what you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear. If you fail, we have both failed. We’re in this together. I want you to be successful; that’s how I get there too. I'll show you why Topsail Island is the destination of choice...I love it here."
Where did you grow up?
Scott was born in Indiana and his parents resided there his first two years. The family then moved to Northwest Ohio where he lived until he was an early teenager. His family then moved to Arizona for his father’s work for less than a year before moving to Minnesota, where he attended high school and the first several years of college. Scott moved to North Carolina in 1993 and has called it home ever since. Scott has traveled extensively throughout most of the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, Bahamas, and China.
Any “fun facts” or other information you would like to share?
Scott is an avid outdoorsman. He is well known as one of the area’s offshore fishing experts. Scott obtained his Captain’s License and Master Captain’s License many years ago, has completed numerous outdoor survival courses, and isn’t afraid of a few alligators. During personal vacations he often takes his own boat to the Bahamas for weeks at a time island hopping. He also has a love for the woods and hunting, and almost anything else outdoors away from the technological demands of today, even though his office nickname is “Computer Boy.” Scott is a prankster at heart: beware, your living room might get wrapped in aluminum foil or decorated with hundreds of toy army men. His entrepreneur and coaching desires lead his work flow everyday. Scott is also a Small Business Consultant, seminar speaker, Financial Counselor for both families and businesses, and a serious investor. Scott says; “My wife is my world! She’s the best and my reality check. Work or play often get in the way; but she brings me back down to earth.”
